Frequently Asked Questions

What is iXope?

iXope is a digital medical device designed for use in examining and performing minor procedures on the ear, eye, and skin. It combines high-resolution imaging with a unique design allowing healthcare professionals to both diagnose and treat common conditions more effectively.

How is iXope different from traditional medical devices?

Unlike most devices used in general practice, iXope is multifunctional. It not only enables high-quality examinations, but also allows clinicians to perform minor procedures, such as removing impacted ear wax or extracting embedded foreign bodies from the ear or eye.

Can iXope replace other specialized equipment like an ear microscope or slit lamp?

iXope is designed to function similarly to an ear microscope and a slit lamp, particularly in the context of minor procedures and examinations involving the ear and anterior eye. While it may not fully replace high-end surgical instruments, it provides sufficient visualization and control for routine and minor in-office procedures.

Who can use iXope?

iXope is designed for use by primary healthcare clinicians, including general practitioners (GPs), ENT specialists, dermatologists, ophthalmologists, and other trained professionals. It is ideal for general practice, specialist clinics, and particularly valuable in rural and remote healthcare settings where access to specialists may be limited.

Is iXope portable?

Yes. iXope is designed to be compact and portable, making it ideal for clinics, home visits, or telemedicine support:

  • Handheld size – small enough to fit in a doctor’s pocket
  • Charging deck holds both iXope and its adapter, keeping tools organized
  • The charging deck also functions as a power bank, allowing use without connection to the grid
What can iXope be used for?

iXope can assist with:

  • Microscopic ear inspection, including ear wax removal (microsuction)
  • Foreign body removal from the ear or eye
  • Examination and imaging of the ear, eye, and skin
Is iXope safe to use?

Yes. iXope is developed with a strong focus on patient safety and clinical reliability. It is built in compliance with international medical and electronic standards, including ISO 13485 for medical device quality management and IEC 60601 for the safety and performance of medical electrical equipment. The system minimizes discomfort during procedures while providing clinicians with clear visualization and control. The images captured are accurately documented, offering valuable support for follow-up appointments and medico-legal purposes

Is iXope a certified medical device?

Yes. iXope is a Class 1 medical device and is TGA registered (Therapeutic Goods Administration, Australia). It complies with relevant safety and quality standards for use in clinical settings.

Can you store images or video from examinations with iXope?

Yes. iXope includes digital documentation features, allowing clinicians to capture images or video during examinations. While the device itself has limited internal storage capacity, it comes with dedicated software that enables secure storage and management of images or video on a computer and integrate them into the doctor’s software (EMR) for patient records, referrals, or monitoring progress over time.

How does iXope connect to a computer or display?

iXope connects wirelessly via Wi-Fi to a computer, laptop, tablet, smartphone or compatible device. It transmits images and videos, allowing clinicians to examine and treat while documenting the process efficiently.

Does iXope require special software?

Yes. iXope comes with a dedicated software for viewing, capturing, and managing clinical images and videos. It’s user-friendly and designed to integrate into existing workflows with minimal setup.

Can I capture and store images or videos with iXope?

Yes. iXope supports the capture, storage, and sharing of high-quality images and videos. This is especially useful for patient records, clinical reviews, and referrals.

Is iXope more expensive than standard tools in general practice?

Yes and no.:

+ Dermatosoce $4600
+ Otoscope and ophthalmoscope set $1900
+ ear microscope $12000
+ slit lamp $12000

Unlike to traditional equipment iXope is a cost-effective high-end digital device that combines multiple tools and captures high-quality images for documentation and follow-up. Additionally, it can be used for billable procedures, similar to an ear microscope or slit lamp, but in a smaller, handheld form.

What is the battery life and charging time of iXope?

iXope is equipped with a rechargeable battery that provides a minimum of 2.5 hours of continuous use on a full charge. It takes approximately 1.5 hours to fully recharge to 100%. Additionally, iXope can be left on its charger continuously, helping to organize adapters and maintain its charge without needing to disconnect. The charger also doubles as a portable power bank, allowing users to charge other devices while traveling, making it ideal for mobile healthcare units or on-the-go clinical environments. iXope and its charging dock is also IEC 60601-1 compliant, ensuring safety and performance standards for medical electrical equipment are met.
